When Copenhagen Changes Rhythm: Notes from Distortion
Observations on culture, entrepreneurship, consumer behavior, and the communities that emerge when the city becomes a festival.
This week I was immersed in a commissioned research project during Distortion, one of Copenhagen’s most iconic street festivals. While I can’t share insights that belong to the client, I can take you with me through some of my personal observations from the city.
Distortion has changed significantly over the years. What started as a celebration of street culture has evolved into a large-scale urban event that attracts locals, tourists, students, families, creatives, and curious observers from all over the world.
This year’s atmosphere felt particularly intense.
Copenhagen is already a city defined by bicycles, but during Distortion the streets seem to develop a different rhythm. Rental bikes mix with local cyclists, crowds spill into public spaces, and familiar streets take on an entirely different energy.

About the author
I’m Andréia, a Copenhagen-based Trend, Culture & Consumer Behaviour Analyst specialising in fashion trends, circular fashion, secondhand culture and Scandinavian consumer shifts.
Through field research, street observation, retail insights and cultural analysis, I explore how changes in society influence what we wear, buy, value and communicate.
My work examines emerging cultural signals across fashion, consumer behaviour, circularity and everyday life, turning observations into insights for brands, creative teams and cultural projects.
I’m open to research collaborations, commissioned field studies, trend and consumer insight projects, cultural research, creative collaborations and selected editorial opportunities.
If you’re a brand, agency, creative studio, researcher or organisation looking for an independent perspective from Copenhagen and Scandinavia, I’d be happy to explore how we might work together.
